If you visit Japan or China, one of the places that you will visit is temple, isn’t? But here in Kelantan there’s a lot of old, unique and beautiful mosque to visit. Until now, Kelantan has at least 520 mosques, this number including state mosque, city mosque and private mosques. Here is some of the mosque, perhaps it will help your visit to Kelantan.
Muhammadi Mosque
This is the state mosque for Kelantan. Located exactly in the city center, which is very close to almost all interested places in the town. This is the center for all Islamic activities for this state. This mosque is built in 1867, by using the chosen high quality woods. You can still see the old part of the mosque until now. Besides, this mosque become the prominent mark for this Islamic city.
Friday will be the busiest day for this mosque where they conduct Jumaat prayer. This is a pray that is compulsory for a man to attend unless they are sick, travelers, or if they have a good reason not to attend. You can see lots of people during that day.
The above is the night view of the mosque in the night time, front view. And below is the view from the air. This mosque, as you can see, is a huge one- 10,600 square feet size and can accommodate up to 2,400 people at one time.
Beijing Mosque
This mosque is located at Rantau Panjang, about 45 minutes drive from Kota Bharu. You can easily spot this mosque but at first, you might be curious either it is a temple, or a mosque because of its design. I honestly love its unique design. It is also located at nearby the road, so you can stop there easily and enjoy the view.
This mosque is a symbol of a good relationship between the state and China government. That’s all.
Sultan Yahya Petra Mosque
This mosque can accommodate up to 3,000 people at one time, located in Kubang Kerian at Sultan Yahya Petra Street which is about 5km from Kota Bharu City Center. I do regularly visit this mosque, this is not only for praying purpose but also for sport activities. This mosque has its own badminton hall for local people, takraw court and a hall for any activities.
The design is amazing.
Kampung Laut Mosque
This is the oldest surviving mosque in Kelantan, built in early 18th century. At first, this mosque situated in Tumpat, Kelantan. But then due to flood problem, they moved this mosque to Nilam Puri, Kota Bharu. Right now, it is situated right in front of Akedemi Pengajian Islam, University of Malaya at Nilam Puri. You can easily spot this unique mosque because it is right next to the main road from Kota Bharu – Machang.
